Asheville's independent bookstore is called Malaprop's, and last week it held quite the YA-themed schedule of events. On Wednesday the lovely Sarah Dessen talked about her new book, WHAT HAPPENED TO GOODBYE, which made me immediately want to buy and read it, as well as her others I haven’t read yet. The bookstore cafe was packed. Often when I attend YA author talks, the audience is filled with adult fans or aspiring writers (ain’t nothing wrong with that), but Sarah’s was packed with dozens of teen girls who’d read every word of her ten books. It was so inspiring to see such fan support!
Myra, Victoria, Beth, and Stephanie. Inspiring ladies!
On Thursday, Malaprop’s hosted a YA panel with Myra McEntire (HOURGLASS), Beth Revis (ACROSS THE UNIVERSE), Victoria Schwab (THE NEAR WITCH), and Stephanie Perkins (ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS). It was great to hear these ladies talk so passionately about their books and their writing processes. Beth and Stephanie both live in Western North Carolina, as do a few other published YA writers. Yet another reason Asheville rocks.
