The March 2012 issue of Our State magazine is out (which is for North Carolina, leading me to think...does every state have an Our State magazine??) and it has an article about Highland Books, my family's business in Brevard, NC. In the article my dad says he and my mom originally planned on being the "Johnny Appleseeds of bookstores" and opening small bookstores along the Blue Ridge Parkway, but then they just fell in love with Brevard and stayed.
The article also talks about how my mom, my sister, and I are all writers. In true Appalachian "storycatching" fashion, my mom collected oral histories of Transylvania County in a book called Transylvania Memories, and my sister Lena co-authored a nonfiction book called Reinventing Fire: Bold Business Solutions for the New Energy Era as part of her work with a sustainability think tank.
You can probably imagine how family dinners go at our house...plenty o' book talk.
