I love the end of the year, because everyone starts posting their "Best of 2013" lists. It's so fun to read back through my reading log and remember all the books I read over the past twelve months…some great, some not-so-great, but all of them valuable.
Here are my statistics for 2013:
Total books read: 45 (13 of which were ARCs)
YA fiction: 21
Adult fiction: 12
Short Story Collections: 2
This is down from 65 books that I read in 2012, but I'm not surprised. 2013 was a crazy year for me writing-wise. THE MADMAN'S DAUGHTER came out in January and I was busier than expected promoting and just trying to understand the whole "published author" work/life balance (or lack thereof), and I was editing HER DARK CURIOSITY, and writing and editing the third book in the series, in addition to working on my next series, THE CAGE. That didn't leave as much time for reading, but I also felt less of an urge to read. I inundated myself so much with books (especially YA titles) in 2011 and 2012 that I think I burnt myself out. That's why this year I tried to read more adult fiction and nonfiction, and boy did I find some great reads!
*I should note that not all these books came out in 2013

Smoke and Mirrors, Neil Gaiman
