Spring 2015 YA Scavenger Hunt is on!

Hi! I'm Megan Shepherd, and this year I'm participating in the Spring 2015 YA Scavenger Hunt, a game that lets readers win prizes while getting to know some great YA authors and books. You have a chance to win a book from every author on the hunt (50 total!) as well as read exclusive content the authors are putting up just for this game.

This is me:

And these are my books:

If you'd like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt homepage.

This year I'm on the GOLD team.

Directions: Somewhere in this post I've listed my favorite number and bolded it. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the gold team, and then add them up. Once you've added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian's permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by April 5, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

Note: There are EIGHT contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the GOLD TEAM--but there are also other color teams for a chance to win a whole different set of signed books.

Today, I am hosting author Laurisa White Reyes on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

Laurisa White Reyes is the author of The Celestine Chronicles, The Crystal Keeper series, and Contact. She is also the editor-in-chief of Middle Shelf Magazine and the Senior Editor of Skyrocket Press. She loves chocolate, Broadway musicals, and rainstorms, and lives in Southern California with her husband and five children.

Find out more information by checking out the author website or find more about the author's book here!

Her latest book is CONTACT.

CONTACT description:

Mira wants to die. She’s attempted suicide twice already and failed. Every time she comes in contact with another person, skin to skin, that person’s psyche uploads into hers. While her psychologist considers this a gift, for Mira it’s a curse from which she cannot escape.
To make matters worse, Mira’s father is being investigated for the deaths of several volunteer test subjects of the miracle drug Gaudium. Shortly after Mira’s mother starts asking questions, she ends up in a coma. Although her father claims it was an accident, thanks to her “condition” Mira knows the truth, but proving it just might get her killed.

And Laurisa has provided some exclusive content as part of the hunt, a fictional interview between TV host Ellen and the main character of CONTACT, Mira Ortiz:

Ellen DeGeneres’s exclusive interview with the girl everyone’s talking about, Mira Ortiz.

ELLEN:  Hello, Mira, and welcome to the show. So, you’re all over the news these days, what with your father winning the election and you surviving the fire and all. Tell us, how does it feel to be the daughter of California’s first Hispanic governor?

MIRA: Great, I guess? Well, that’s not completely true. I don’t like being in the spotlight all the time. Things were bad enough when my dad was being investigated for those deaths caused by the illegal Guadium trials, and then when I ended up in the hospital after—well, you know—the media wouldn’t leave me alone. I prefer to stay under the radar, but that’s kind of hard to do when you’re father’s famous.

ELLEN: Yeah, what a bummer. So, why do want to be so isolated?

MIRA: It’s hard to explain, but when I touch people, skin to skin, I upload their psyches into mine.

ELLEN: Really? Cool.

MIRA: Not cool. Actually, it’s painful and overwhelming. I can’t control it, so I do everything I can to avoid touching people. I wear a hoodie all the time and stay in my room a lot.

ELLEN: That must make it hard to get close to anyone. Tough on relationships. So you don’t touch anyone?

MIRA: No one.

ELLEN:  Not even that cute guy you were rescued with? You’ve been seen around town together lately. What was his name?

MIRA (blushing): David. His name is David.

ELLEN:  Oooh-la-la! Can we talk about him?

MIRA: I’d rather not.

ELLEN:  Another bummer. But I respect that. Well, before we cut to commercial, I just have one more question to ask. I understand you’re a fan of Broadway musicals.

MIRA: Yes. My room’s covered in playbills.

ELLEN:  Do you have a favorite?

MIRA: I really love Les Miserables. Dav—I mean, a friend gave me a collector’s album recently and I spend a lot of time listening to it. The music helps me face everything that’s happened the past few weeks. It hasn’t been easy.

ELLEN: I image it hasn’t, but with your dad as the new Governor, I suppose you’ll have plenty to keep your mind occupied. And maybe David will help, too.

MIRA (smiling): Maybe.

ELLEN: Thanks, Mira. It was a pleasure to meet you. (To the camera) Stay tuned to learn how to make slammin’ summer subs from the chef of one of So Cal’s favorite sandwich shops, Berge’s.

(to Mira) You ever been there?

MIRA: Yes, actually, I have. It’s one of my favorite’s, too.

ELLEN: Well, stick around and maybe you can give us some pointers. We’ll be right back!

Thanks, Laurisa! Are you readers curious about what exclusive content I'm going to reveal as part of the hunt? I'll give you a hint…it has to do with my new book, THE CAGE, and it involves the number eight! You'll have to keep hopping blogs until you find the Gold Team author who is hosting my content.

To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author, Kelly Hashway! Continue the game by visiting her blog here.
